Historical background on the birth of Quittengo
The name of the village comes from the root of pre-Indo-European languages "quit", which means "grassy balcony" or "sunny place". The Germanic ending "-engo" was added, which means "fortified place where a small garrison is stationed". The city was founded around 1700 after the upper Cervo Valley separated from Andorno (then called "Cacciorna").

Throughout its history, the main activities of the people of Quittengo have been farming and animal husbandry, as well as construction and stone processing. Many local people, in fact, emigrated as stonemasons or builders in the Middle Ages. The village has a population of around 220 people.

Quittengo has been part of the Alta Valle Cervo Mountain Community since 1973, along with the municipalities of Piedicavallo, Rosazza, Campiglia Cervo, and San Paolo Cervo. Later, the community was merged with the Bassa Valle Cervo Mountain Community, becoming the Valle Cervo Mountain Community.
