Quingentole: a historic and agricultural place on the banks of the Po
Quingentole is a small Italian municipality located in the province of Mantova in Lombardy, with a population of approximately 1039 inhabitants. Since 2014, the municipality has been part of the Union of Isola Mantovana municipalities along with Pieve di Coriano, Revere, San Giovanni del Dosso, San Giacomo delle Segnate, Schivenoglia, and Villa Poma.
Physical geography
The territory of Quingentole is located on the right bank of the Po river, just downstream from the confluence with the Secchia river.
Origin of the name
The name Quingentole may derive from "quingenti", which means "five hundred" in reference to the original surface area of the place, or from "quinque", which means "five" in relation to the distance in miles from the Via Aemilia Altinatis, a road that connected Ostiglia to Quarantoli. Another hypothesis is that the name derives from "quinque gentes", meaning "five families".
History
Quingentole is located in the Oltrepò mantovano and was donated by Emperor Otto III of Saxony to the bishop of Mantova in 977. Later on, the city passed to the Gonzaga family, who elected one of their representatives as head of the municipality. Today, Quingentole is a cutting-edge agricultural center, where cereals, vegetables, fruit trees, and fodder for breeding cattle and pigs are grown. There are also some companies active in the clothing sector.

The coat of arms and the flag of Quingentole were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on July 2, 2002.
