Located in the province of Vercelli, in Piedmont, Quarona is a municipality with a population of about 3805 inhabitants. The municipality's territory is crossed by the Sesia River and includes the hamlets of Doccio and Valmaggiore.
History
The church of San Giovanni al Monte is one of the oldest and most artistically relevant monuments in Quarona. Its construction began in the late Roman era, in the 5th century. Inside the church, it is possible to admire important examples of medieval frescoes.
The Beata Panacea, also venerated in the municipality of Ghemme, is particularly present in the local culture.
Trivia: the state road 299 of Alagna is the main street of the town and is named after Pietro Rolandi. In the 19th century, Rolandi even opened a bookstore in London frequented by personalities of the time, including Giuseppe Mazzini!
Symbols
The tree represented in the coat of arms of Quarona is a mighty beech that existed until 1886 and was located in the Vico district. The tree was famous throughout the valley for its size and was visible from a great distance. The blue band in the coat of arms symbolizes the Sesia River.
