In 1364, the King of Aragon, Peter IV of Aragon, granted the town in fief to Pietrino Boyl, who was created Baron of Putifigari, and later passed to the Sussarello family from Sassari. In the 18th century, it was elevated to a marquisate, and in 1839, with the suppression of the feudal system, it was redeemed from the last feudatory, Francesco Maria Pilo Boyl.
