Flecchia
Flecchia: an autonomous municipality now a fraction of Pray
Hello everyone! Today I will talk about a fraction of the municipality of Pray (Italy) called Flecchia. Situated at 582 m s.l.m., Flecchia was once an autonomous municipality in the central-eastern Province of Biella before being absorbed by the municipality of Pray. But let's take a look at some curiosities about this small village together.
Toponym
Like many other historic towns, the municipality of Flecchia has changed its name several times throughout its history. In fact, it was once called Felicetum Libicorum and later, from 1871, only Flechia.
History
Flecchia has a very interesting history and some of its events have marked its evolution. In 1305, the village suffered significant damage during clashes between the followers of fra Dolcino who set it on fire. However, in 1438, with the establishment of the parish, Flecchia obtained religious autonomy. Finally, in 1928, the municipality of Flecchia was absorbed into that of Pray.
Prestigious buildings
Despite its relatively small size, Flecchia is rich in prestigious buildings. The Palazzo Riccio (or Rizzi), built in the 17th century, dominates the village and offers a breathtaking view. The Parish Church of Sant'Ambrogio, dating back to the same period, offers architecture rich in history and charm. Moreover, Flecchia also boasts a historic manufacturing plant: the Ruota dei fratelli Zignone fu Carlo factory, now recovered as part of the Ecomuseum of Biella and used to host exhibitions and events.
Infrastructure and transport
Flecchia was served by a stop on the Grignasco-Coggiola railway from 1908 to 1935.
Conclusion
Flecchia is a wonderful place: small and welcoming, but nestled in the beautiful slow landscape of the hills of Biella. If you ever have the opportunity to visit it, you can admire its beauty and the history that lies behind every corner.
