Pradalunga
Pradalunga: a municipality immersed in the nature of the Orobie Pre-Alps
Welcome to Pradalunga!
If you are looking for peace and an unspoiled natural environment, Pradalunga is the perfect municipality for you! We are located in the province of Bergamo, Lombardy, and we are characterized by the presence of a large number of naturalistic itineraries.
Physical geography
The territory
Our small town is nestled at the foot of Mount Misma, one of the first foothills of the Orobie Pre-Alps, and extends longitudinally following the course of the valley in which it is located. Our hamlet, Cornale, is located to the south of the capital and is now a single residential nucleus.
If you love walks in nature, you will find numerous naturalistic itineraries in the areas adjacent to the Serio River, where recent interventions have allowed the construction of a cycle and pedestrian track that has revalued areas that were previously subject to degradation in recent years. We are very proud that various species of animals, including gulls and grey herons, which seemed to have disappeared from the area, now have stable colonies in the region.
Our area has been included in a local Park of supra-municipal interest called NaturalSerio, which includes the entire orographic bank of the river belonging to the municipality of Pradalunga, and then extends on the opposite slope to the municipality of Ranica.
Our forests are another attraction of our community and we maintain them with care. The places of greatest attraction in this area are Mount Misma, Forcella Hill and the adjacent valley called Sbardellata, Furca and the locality of Spersiglio, where there is a characteristic farm from which you can access the grasslands of Pradale. The meadows form a large natural terrace that overlooks the hilly area of Scanzorosciate and provides breathtaking views of both the valley and the plain, despite its low altitude.
Origins of the name
Our name has a very interesting history. There are two versions: according to the first, the origin of the name is linked to the existence of long meadows between the river and Mount Misma; the second, more credible version, refers to "Preda longa" (in dialect "Pietra lunga"), in remembrance of the activity related to the extraction of sharpening stones.
History
The first stable settlements in these territories date back to the Roman Empire when small residential settlements related to the extraction of sharpening stones were developed. In this regard, there are mentions of Pliny the Elder, who tells of great economic trade related to the trade of the aforementioned material in the surrounding areas of Mount Misma.
Despite the decline of the Roman Empire and then the barbarian invasions, the medieval village of Pradalunga had a significant demographic increase. thanks to the improved living conditions of the population, the first documentations attesting to the existence of our small and charming town immersed in nature date back to that historical period.
In summary, if you are looking for the perfect place to spend time in contact with nature, we invite you to Pradalunga!
