Posta Fibreno: The natural wonder of Lazio

History

The Municipality of Posta Fibreno was established on April 7, 1957, thanks to the separation of the homonymous hamlet from the Municipality of Vicalvi.

Monuments and Places of Interest

The Posta Fibreno Lake is certainly one of the jewels of the Municipality. It is located at the foot of the mountains of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park and has no tributaries. Its origin derives from a system of pedemontane springs that come from the karst catchment area of the high Val di Sangro in Abruzzo. Its water is constantly fed by the numerous springs that abound along the shores of the lake, keeping the temperature constant at around 10-11°C throughout the year.

One unique feature of the Fibreno Lake is the floating island, locally called "rota". It is an island formed by rhizomes, peat and roots that moves within the lake thanks to the breath of the wind or the increase in the flow of springs.

The fauna of Posta Fibreno Lake

The Posta Fibreno Lake is a nature reserve where you can admire a rich variety of flora and fauna. The clean waters of the lake are the ideal habitat for numerous species of fish, including rainbow trout, catfish, pike, carp and chub. But not only! In the Posta Fibreno Lake, you can also admire the lake reeds and water lilies, among the plants found along the lake shore.

Birds also find an ideal habitat around the Posta Fibreno Lake. Here you can observe species such as the marsh harrier, kingfisher, grey heron, cormorant, water rail and mallard, just to name a few. Spring and autumn are the best seasons to admire the migration of birds and their evolutions on the waters of the lake.

Outdoor activities

The Posta Fibreno Lake represents an ideal destination for nature lovers and enthusiasts of outdoor activities. Here you can dedicate yourself to birdwatching, sport fishing, trekking and hiking. The Lake Nature Reserve is particularly appreciated for cycling excursions.

Furthermore, the Municipality of Posta Fibreno offers numerous opportunities for walks in the historic center of the village, also known as "La Posta" in the local dialect. Among the local attractions not to be missed is the Clock Tower, which offers a splendid view of the lake and its surroundings.

You can also take a tour of the Vicalvi Castle, which is located a few kilometers from the Municipality of Posta Fibreno. The castle was built in the thirteenth century and still represents an example of medieval architecture in the area.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Posta Fibreno is a hidden gem in the heart of Lazio. The Posta Fibreno Lake is a true natural wonder, where fauna and flora find an ideal habitat to live. It is an ideal destination for nature lovers and for all those who love outdoor activities. Hiking or cycling excursions, sport fishing and birdwatching are just some of the activities that you can do in Posta Fibreno. But the Municipality offers much more!
