Laghi: a small Venetian municipality immersed in nature
Laghi is an Italian municipality with only 121 inhabitants and is located in the province of Vicenza, in the Veneto region. In this text, we will discover more about the physical geography of this place immersed in nature and its history.
Physical geography: the heart of the Venetian Prealps
Laghi is located in the northwestern part of the province of Vicenza, in the heart of the Venetian Prealps. The municipality extends over the high Val di Ferro, a tributary of the Posina valley crossed by the Molini-Gusella stream. At this point, the river opens up forming a wide circular basin and widens to form two small alpine lakes on whose shores the municipal capital stands. To the Ferro valley are added the Cavallaro plateau and numerous collateral valleys, with imaginative and allusive names, which were once important routes to reach the mountains.
Mountains and suggestive landscapes
The mountains in the area belong to the Altipiani group and the Campomolon mountain range. The main peaks rise northeast of the municipal capital. The Laghi valley is a land rich in enchanting scenarios: the harshness of the rock towers, the various mountain landscapes, the green and pleasant meadows, the lush forests, the arrangement of the districts, and the sequence of terraces that rise from the valley floor to merge with the rock are testimonies of ancient toil. In most of the mountainous areas dominated by the Venetian Prealps and towards Trentino, mugho pines prevail.
The history of Laghi
The origins of Laghi are uncertain, but it is believed that its foundation dates back to the time of ancient Romans. The territory of Laghi has suffered the influences and dominations of different factions, from the period of the Ostrogoths to that of the Lombards, passing through the French period and Austrian rule, until becoming part of the Kingdom of Italy. During World War I, Laghi suffered damage and destruction, but then gradually rebuilt.
Tourism in Laghi
Despite being a small municipality, Laghi is an ideal place for nature and mountain landscape lovers. In addition to hiking activities, you can also visit the church of Santa Maria degli Angeli, built in a wonderful mountain setting, and the ancient Gusela mill. Furthermore, there are various activities dedicated to the production of typical local food products, such as Parmigiano-Reggiano, honey, and cheese, which can be purchased directly from producers.
Conclusions
In summary, Laghi is a small Venetian municipality immersed in nature, surrounded by the Venetian Prealps and rich in enchanting landscapes and historical testimonies. Despite its small size, it still offers unique tourist and culinary opportunities.
