Over the years, San Giovanni has become a residential village for holidays, rebuilt in the 1970s with a characteristic style.
History of San Giovanni
San Giovanni has an interesting history, dating back to the Roman era when it was known as Portus Luguidonis. This port was located in the small bay between the Tower of San Giovanni and the Church of San Giovanni Battista. The traffic of this port was intense, as Sardinia was considered the "granary of Rome". Additionally, it is assumed that there was a city called Feronia near the port in honor of the goddess of water. This could indicate the presence of the Etruscans in the area during Sardinian history.
