Magazzini
Welcome to the Fraction of Magazzini!
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about a beautiful Italian location, Magazzini, a fraction of the municipality of Portoferraio, located in the province of Livorno, in Tuscany. Magazzini is located along the northern coast of the island of Elba, about 8 km east of Portoferraio. Its beach has a small harbor and overlooks the sea, bordered to the east by a small promontory and to the west by the long beach of Schiopparello. But don't worry, I'll tell you everything in detail!
Discover Magazzini
Magazzini is a place that dates back to ancient times, in fact a deposit of bronzes was found near the inhabited center and some tombs with equipment dating back to the 5th century BC at the locality of Le Trane, also known as Santo Stefano, where the church of Santo Stefano alle Trane is located. Magazzini developed as a fishing village in the Middle Ages, thanks to the presence of the harbor that served as a landing place for the salt collected in the saltworks of Schiopparello and San Giovanni.
The history of Latrano
The fraction of Magazzini was part of the territory of the municipality of Latrano, one of the municipalities of the island of Elba mentioned in 1260. On a hill south of Magazzini, at the locality of Santo Stefano alle Trane, there is the church of Santo Stefano, where traces of the lost village of Latrano can still be found. The toponym "Le Trane" should in fact be understood as a corruption of the ancient "Latrano".
Places of interest
One of the places of interest in Magazzini is the beach, which is however bordered to the east by a small promontory that separates it from the beach of Ottone, ending at Punta della Pina. Santo Stefano alle Trane, also known as Santo Stefano ai Magazzini, is a small church located on a hill not far from the center of the village.
At the La Chiusa estate, which with its enclosure wall now serves as the perimeter for part of the beach, Napoleon Bonaparte stopped before reaching Portoferraio.
