Today, Porto Empedocle is the town dedicated to the famous character of Andrea Camilleri, Salvo Montalbano. In 2003, the name ‘Vigata’, the imaginary town of Montalbano, was also adopted. However, later on, the decision on the naming of the commune was revoked.
