Ponzone has been part of the Aleramic March since the 10th century and in the 12th and 13th centuries was the center of the March of Ponzone. This territory was ruled by a branch of the Aleramic family.

Moreover, Provincial Road 210 crosses the municipal territory linking Acqui and Palo.
