Ponzone has been part of the Aleramic March since the 10th century and in the 12th and 13th centuries was the center of the March of Ponzone. This territory was ruled by a branch of the Aleramic family.

In particular, the hamlet of Cimaferle is the endpoint of Provincial Road 208, which connects the hamlet to Cassinelle. The SP 212 connects the hamlet of Cappelletta to the SS334 of Sassello, near the municipalities of Cartosio and Malvicino. Moreover, Provincial Road 210 crosses the municipal territory linking Acqui and Palo.
