Hello, friends! Today I will talk to you about Pontoglio, a municipality in the province of Brescia in Lombardy. Pontoglio is an interesting town from both a geographical and historical point of view.

History

But let's move onto the most intriguing part: the history of Pontoglio dates back to the medieval period, and the Oglio river was becoming increasingly important. During the Middle Ages, there were numerous clashes between Brescians and Bergamascans for control of the river. In 1156, the famous Battle of Palosco took place, where the Bergamasque troops were defeated, and the banner of S. Alessandro was carried as a trophy to Brescia in the Church of the Saints Faustino and Giovita.

But the most famous battle was fought between 6th and 7th July 1191 in the locality of Cicalino, where even the Emperor Henry VI intervened. To this day, the area is called "Malamorte" due to the intensity of the battle. In 1238, Frederick II occupied Pontoglio, and it had already become an important strategic point.

Curiosities

But Pontoglio is not only history and geography, it is also a town with unique culinary specialties! The Casoncello di Pontoglio, in fact, is a typical dish produced within the municipal territory. Since 2019, the Casoncello di Pontoglio has received the "Denominazione Comunale d'Origine" certification. I can't wait to taste it!

Conclusion

We have come to the end of our trip to Pontoglio. An ancient village that breathes history and offers a unique geography. Walking through its narrow and picturesque streets, you discover charming views and breathtaking landscapes. Why not plan a trip to discover this gem of the province of Brescia?
