Discover Pontelongo: a surprise in Veneto

Hello friends, today I'm taking you to discover Pontelongo, a delightful municipality in Veneto that has a lot to offer. With its 3,641 inhabitants and its location between Saccisica and Polesine, Pontelongo is perfect for those seeking the tranquility of country life and want to immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.

Monuments and places of interest

Pontelongo has a varied and interesting tourist offer, especially from an architectural point of view. Don't miss the Church of Sant'Andrea Apostolo, a place of worship that dates back many years and still deserves to be visited for its suggestive architecture and ancient frescoes.

Villa Foscarini Erizzo is another must-see stop. Dating back to the 16th century, this Venetian villa was renovated at the end of the 19th century and is now the seat of the Municipality of Pontelongo. The writer and poet Gasparo Gozzi also lived here.

Don't miss the Church of San Geminiano in the hamlet of Terranova, another beautiful church that deserves to be visited. The Palazzetto dello Sport, former Fascist party headquarters and designed by architect Quirino De Giorgio, is also a monument of interest and an ideal place for sports.

Pontelongo: art treasures and sugar factories in Veneto.

The sugar factory

One of the distinguishing features of Pontelongo is the sugar factory dating back to 1910, still in operation today. Owned by Belgian capital, the sugar factory was one of the most important factories in the northern Italy sugar sector. Ilario Montesi, the industrial manager who owned it from 1927 to 1967, brought the factory's production to other products such as syrups, glutamate, alcohol, and faesite.

Culture

From a religious point of view, but also connected to the civil aspect, the "Vow Procession" is an important event that takes place every first Sunday of May and celebrates the liberation of the town from the plague in 1676. The procession is characterized by the statue of the Madonna carried on the shoulders of twelve barefoot bearers who cross a wooden bridge over the Bacchiglione river supported by boats and decorated with holy cards.

Conclusions

Pontelongo is a small municipality that offers a lot: monuments, places of architectural interest, and culture suitable for everyone. Living in a place like this can be a unique experience, made up of moments of peace and tranquility immersed in the beauty of nature. Come visit Pontelongo and you'll be surprised!
