Ponte Nizza
Welcome to Ponte Nizza!
Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Ponte Nizza, a municipality in the province of Pavia that may surprise you with its beauty and history. Ponte Nizza has 772 inhabitants and is located in the Oltrepò Pavese, right in the valley of the Staffora river at the confluence with the Nizza river which forms a lateral valley.
The History of Ponte Nizza
The municipality of Ponte Nizza was established in 1928 by joining the municipalities of Trebbiano Nizza, Pizzocorno, San Ponzo Semola and Cecima, but in 1956 this village regained its autonomy. The territory of Trebbiano belonged to the Malaspina family since its establishment in 1164. For unclear reasons, at least in the 17th century it did not belong to the jurisdiction of Godiasco, but constituted a small independent jurisdiction. It was then called "Valle Trebbiana", then Trebbiano and since 1863 Trebbiano Nizza.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the banner of Ponte Nizza were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on May 4, 1983. The peaks indicate the three original nuclei: Trebbiano Nizza, San Ponzo Semola and Pizzocorno; the bridge is a "talking weapon" that recalls the name of the village. The river represents the Nizza river, while the fish symbolize the healthiness of the water. In the head of the shield is represented the bell tower of the hermitage of Sant'Alberto di Butrio. The branch of dry thorn is a symbol of the Malaspina family.
Monuments and Places of Interest
In the territory of Ponte Nizza one can find truly interesting places, such as the hermitage of Sant'Alberto di Butrio. If you like adventure, the Grottoes of San Ponzo are also available, located in the Semola fraction. A short distance from the hermitage of S. Alberto di Butrio is the locality of Carmelo, where you can admire the stone houses, testimony of the ancient peasant civilization of Oltrepò Pavese.
Society
The municipality of Ponte Nizza can count on a population of 772 inhabitants and, if you are interested in the demographic of the area, I can inform you that there have been some oscillations over the years. Furthermore, it is important to mention the presence of Cascina Rossago, the first Italian "farm community" for adults with autism, the official headquarters of the Invisible Orchestra project.
Culture
Ponte Nizza is part of the culturally homogeneous territory of the Four Provinces, namely Alessandria, Genoa, Pavia and Piacenza. This territory is characterized by common customs and an important repertoire of music and dances of the four provinces that are very ancient.
