History

Ponte Buggianese has a recent history: the first document mentioning the community dates back to the sixteenth century. Initially, the village was part of the Duchy of Florence and only with the arrival of the Habsburg-Lorraine in the eighteenth century did it begin to claim its autonomy. Thanks to the reforms implemented by Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo, the territory was reclaimed and the living conditions of the inhabitants improved. During the French invasion, Ponte Buggianese was under the control of Napoleon Bonaparte and only with the unification of Italy did it become part of the province of Pistoia.

Symbols

The coat of arms of the town, regulated by Royal Decree of October 19, 1897, represents the fusion of the origins of Borgo a Buggiano and Ponte Buggianese. It is a split shield with a red ox on a green field and a red lily on a silver field, while the motto reads "From the castle of Buggiano I drew the name and origin".

I hope this information has piqued your interest in visiting Ponte Buggianese.
