Molino del Piano

Welcome to Molino del Piano!

Welcome to Molino del Piano, a charming hamlet of the city of Pontassieve, located just 7 km from the city center. This delightful village is characterized by a main street, via Fratelli Carli, which leads south towards the town of Le Sieci and via Aretina, and north splits into two pathways, one leading to Olmo and the other to Doccia.

History

The name Molino del Piano derives from the mill built in the area around the 14th century. The main building of the mill still exists today and has been converted into a residence. Molino del Piano was a vital hub for a series of roads leading to secondary valleys such as Santa Brigida, Fornello, Doccia, Lubaco and Monteloro.

The parish church of San Martino was built on the path leading to the castle of Torre a Decima and was first mentioned in 1400. The church was completely rebuilt at the end of the 18th century and represents an important historical landmark.
