History

The history of this hamlet has very ancient roots, dating back to the early Middle Ages. In particular, in 1003 the construction of a castle took place, the remains of the walls and the portal of which can still be admired today. But Montecerboli is also famous for the presence of boraciferous fumaroles in its territory. This volcanic phenomenon consists of the emission from the subsurface of gas and vapours, which are exploited in various ways, for example for the extraction of boric acid, an activity that has made the nearby hamlet of Larderello famous.
