The history of Pognana Lario
The name of the municipality derives from the Latin name of the person ''Apponius'', with the addition of the suffix -anus. Pognana testifies to a human presence already in Roman times, as demonstrated by some burial tombs discovered in the area. During the Middle Ages, the village of Pognana was fortified and located in the area now called Castello. Pognana was part of the parish of Nesso during the Duchy of Milan and the municipal territory also included the localities of Quarzano, Canzaga and Rippa.
In the 19th century, the municipality of Pognana Lario was annexed to Faggeto Lario and Palanzo, but this decision was later canceled. In 1978, the coat of arms and flag of the municipality were granted by the Republic.

The Church of the Holy Trinity, dating back to the 18th century, is the parish church of the municipality, consecrated in 1764. In the Rovasco locality, you can visit the Church of San Miro. Dating back to the 12th-13th century, this church underwent important renovations in the second half of the 15th century, thanks to which it underwent an enlargement of the structure.
The Buco di Premen, on the other hand, is a fissure in the rock that connects the path to the Colma della Guardia with the Valassina.
