Hello friends! Today I will talk about Turin, a beautiful city in northern Italy with almost 850,000 inhabitants. It is the fourth largest municipality in Italy by population and is home to the Turin metropolitan area with approximately 1.7 million inhabitants. Turin is one of the main centers of Universities, Arts, Tourism, Science and Culture in Italy and is also among the largest centers of industrial production in the country.

History

Foundation

Turin has a two-thousand-year-old history. It was probably founded in the 3rd century BC by the Taurini and then transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus in the 1st century BC. After the Roman era, the city came under the Ostrogoth dominion and then under the important nominal lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century. In 1563, Turin became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy and, from 1720, was the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia until 1861, when it also became the first capital of the Kingdom of Italy.
