Piovera
Piovera: History and Symbols
Hello everyone! Today, I want to talk to you about a town in the province of Alessandria, in Piedmont: Piovera, or as it is called in Piedmontese, Piòvra. This small town, which had 789 inhabitants, merged with Alluvioni Cambiò to form the new municipality of Alluvioni Piovera on January 1, 2018. But before this merger, Piovera had a long history to tell.
The symbol of the municipality was a coat of arms granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 2007. The banner, on the other hand, was a split flag of white and green.
Monuments and places of interest
Civic Monuments
One of the most important places of interest in Piovera was the castle that was once owned by the Visconti, and later passed on to the Balbi of the Republic of Genoa. In this castle, which still retains parts painted in mourning for the death of Napoleon Bonaparte, Count Niccolò Calvi di Bergolo decided to open the halls to the public. In addition to hosting art workshops, the castle is included in the "Open Castles" system of Lower Piedmont.
Religious Monuments
The Church of San Michele Arcangelo, located in Alluvioni Piovera, represents one of the few religious monuments in this area.
Society
Population Evolution
Regarding the demographic evolution, Piovera has never seen an excessively rapid growth of the population. However, the influx of tourists, attracted above all by the castle complex, has led to a small increase in inhabitants in recent years.
Infrastructure and Transport
Once, the municipality was served by the Alessandria-Sale tramway, but this service was interrupted in 1933.
Administration
In the following table, I propose a list of the administrations that have succeeded in this municipality.
Notes
As a final note, I want to clarify that Piovera was suppressed as a municipality in 2018 with the merger with Alluvioni Cambiò.
