The hilly and mountainous territory is characterized by the presence of forest cover, while less steep areas are occupied by meadows.
The climate of Pinerolo is pre-alpine. The average annual temperature is about 13.5°C. During the calendar year, the amount of rainfall varies from a minimum of 506 mm to a maximum of 1157 mm, with May being the rainiest month and January and February the least rainy. Wind gusts usually reach maximum intensity during Foehn events.
The history of Pinerolo
The territory of Pinerolo has been inhabited since prehistoric times, as evidenced by the findings of bronze utensils near Piazza Guglielmone. During Roman domination, a necropolis was found that indicates agricultural presence in the Riva di Pinerolo territory. During the Middle Ages, Pinerolo was an important stronghold of the territory and was fortified several times until the intervention of Sébastien Le Prestre de Vauban in 1670. It was the capital of the homonymous district of Pinerolo.
