Discovering the small municipality of Pila

Hello everyone! Today, I want to talk to you about a small Piedmontese municipality called Pila. Situated in northern Valsesia, Pila has an approximate population of 144 and a varied altimetric territorial landscape.

Exploring Pila's geography

The small village of Pila is located in the northwestern part of the province of Vercelli, and sits on a valley floor at around 686 meters above sea level. However, the particularity of this territory is given by significant altimetric changes: in fact, the highest point in Pila is situated at 1,912 meters above sea level, even though it is uninhabited.

The history of Pila

Unfortunately, there is not much information available at the moment regarding the first settlements in the Pila area. The first official mentions of the municipality can be traced back only to 1217, when it fell under the jurisdiction of the Vercelli municipality. Later, from 1350, Pila came under the dominion of the Visconti Duchy of Milan until 1703, when the possessions were sold to Vittorio Emanuele I of Savoy.

Discovering Pila's symbols

The coat of arms and the banner of the municipality of Pila were granted by a decree by the President of the Republic on October 7, 1963. The banner is a blue-colored flag.

What to visit in Pila

Pila offers some religious buildings of cultural interest. In particular, there is the church of San Pietro, with fifteenth-century frescoes depicting apostles and prophets, the ancient wooden altar originating from the church of Scopello, the church of Sant'Antonio with seventeenth-century frescoes, and the oratory of Santa Caterina, which presents some saintly frescoes on the exterior façade. Moreover, the most daring can embark on a hiking adventure that passes through some small hamlets and reaches the Mount Castello, which is situated at 1804 meters above sea level.

Discovering Pila's society

The demographic evolution of Pila does not highlight significant migratory flows, which are around 3%. The population remains fairly stable year after year, a fact confirmed by the number of inhabitants which, in the last 10 years, has decreased by only 5 units.

Economy of the municipality of Pila

Given the limited number of inhabitants, there is not much economic variety present in this community. The few activities that can be found mostly concern livestock farming, with a preference for poultry farming.

Conclusion

Well, dear friends, we have come to the end of this journey to Pila. I hope to have made you discover a little more about this small but charming Piedmontese municipality. Until the next adventure together!
