Pieve Fissiraga
Welcome to Pieve Fissiraga, the Lodi Municipality with History and Modernity
Pieve Fissiraga, also known as Pieu in the Lombard dialect, is an Italian municipality in the province of Lodi in Lombardy, with a population of 1754 inhabitants.
History
With a history dating back at least to 1211, the inhabited center of Fissiraga has undergone several changes over the centuries.
During the Napoleonic era, from 1809 to 1816, the Municipality of Fissiraga was united with some surrounding farms, but they became autonomous again with the constitution of the Lombard-Venetian Kingdom.
In 1841, Fissiraga was annexed to Cascina Orgnaga and became a hamlet.
Only in 1879 was the Municipality of Pieve Fissiraga created by the merger of various neighboring municipalities, including Cascina Orgnaga, Pezzolo de' Codazzi, Cascina Triulzina, Andreola, and Malguzzana.
In its modern form, the inhabited center developed around the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Pieve Fissiraga), while the ancient Fissiraga appears today as a farm with a courtyard.
In the 1990s, there was significant development around the Orzinuovi State Road 235, with the construction of a large residential, artisanal, and commercial area between Cascina Orgnaga and Pezzolo dei Codazzi.
