Physical geography

Alpago is located in the homonymous basin, surrounded by the Belluno Prealps. Its privileged position makes it an ideal starting point for excursions and walks in nature. But the particularity of the municipality is given by the presence of Lake Santa Croce, which occupies the southwestern part of the territory. The crystal clear waters of the lake are ideal for water sports such as windsurfing and sailing.

Alpago: nature, culture and craftsmanship in Veneto.

History

The municipality of Alpago was born in 2016 from the merger of three pre-existing municipalities: Farra, Pieve and Puos d'Alpago. The decision to join forces was made after years of discussions and referendums, and led to the creation of a single municipal administration.

Symbols

The coat of arms and the flag of the municipality of Alpago have recently been granted. The flag stands out with white, bordered in blue, while the coat of arms consists of three elements: the dragon of Farra, the cypress of Pieve and the eagle of Puos.

Monuments and places of interest

The municipality of Alpago boasts numerous ancient churches that are worth a visit. Among the most important is the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario in Pieve d'Alpago, dating back to the twelfth century and rebuilt after the earthquake of 1873 according to the design of Giuseppe Segusini. But it's not just the churches that attract visitors: the municipality has a long tradition of craftsmanship, and it's possible to buy local products such as cheese and pork, strictly artisanal.

Infrastructure and transportation

The Alpago territory is crossed by the A27 motorway, reachable via the Fadalto-Lago di Santa Croce exit. The state road 51 of Alemagna is the main artery, which crosses the territory along the western shore of the Lake Santa Croce. But if you prefer to travel on foot or by bike, Alpago has a network of trails that runs throughout the territory.

Conclusions

In summary, Alpago is a municipality that does not disappoint the expectations of anyone looking for a place to relax and enjoy nature. The merger of the three municipalities has allowed the creation of a more efficient administrative infrastructure, which guarantees better service to citizens and tourists. If you come to visit us, we recommend trying the local products, perhaps during a walk in the mountains or along the shores of Lake Santa Croce.
