History

The municipality of Pietracupa has medieval origins, as evidenced by its Latin name. It was probably a monastic settlement and was then a feudal domain of many families, including the De Molisio, De Regina, Eboli di Castropignano, and Francone. This last family held Pietracupa from 1676 to 1810, when the feudal relationship ended. In 1704, the Francone family obtained the title of Princes of Pietracupa, which passed to their heirs Caracciolo. Subsequently, two abbeys and the church of San Gregorio were built, rebuilt after an earthquake.

Symbols

The coat of arms of Pietracupa consists of a red tower on a rocky mountain of silver, surrounded by three gold comets on a blue background. The banner is a yellow and white cloth. These symbols were granted in 1988.
