The history of Castiglion Fosco
The name Castiglion Fosco originates from the homage that Emperor Otto II wanted to pay to the soldier Fuscius, granting him and his descendants the right to possess that place. It was one of his successors who built the castle, which was called "Castrum Filiorum Fusci". In 1258, the lordship of Castiglion Fosco was subjected to Perugia, which appointed a procurator in the village. In 1428 it was the seat of the third captaincy of the Perugian countryside, while in 1540 it was attacked by the army of Pope Pier Luigi Farnese's son. After numerous legal disputes, the village became part of the Papal States in 1817.

A highly anticipated event for tourists and locals is the "Festa della Torre" which takes place every first week of August and the "Sagra dei fagioli".

The Church of Santa Croce, located at the center of the castle, was built between the end of the 12th and the beginning of the 13th century and underwent various transformations and restorations, the last of which dates back to 1823.
