Pico is a small municipality in the province of Frosinone, located in the heart of Lazio. The village has 2626 inhabitants and its territory extends between 100 and 800 meters above sea level, characterized by a variety of landscapes.

The territory of Pico develops differently depending on the area where it is located. Proceeding clockwise from north, the municipal territory first appears flat, then becomes hilly towards the southeast, where the summit of Mount Pota (640 meters) is reached. In the extreme south, on the other hand, it rises with the peak of Mount Sordo (720 meters) and the Mucoreglia hill (662 meters). The western area remains predominantly hilly, with the Tombara hill (468 meters), Mount Va' Perrotta (450 meters), and Calcarale hill (375 meters). The entire territory is crossed by several streams, including the famous Forma di Sant'Oliva stream that flows under the village.

The climate in Pico is classified as zone D, with a humidity degree of 1478 GR/G.

The origins of the name

The origins of the name Pico are not entirely known, but it is believed to derive from the Latin "picus" meaning wood, referring to its location immersed in nature.

Monuments and attractions

The village is characterized by numerous religious architectures including the church of Sant'Antonino Martire, the church of Santa Marina, the church of San Rocco, and the church of Santa Maria in Campo. Also worth mentioning is the Farnese Castle, a wonderful medieval residence, and the Aurunci Mountains Natural Park, a large green area that offers breathtaking panoramic views of the territory.

The population of Pico is mostly Catholic. The city has one of the 15 libraries that are part of the Valle dei Santi Library System.

Economy of Pico

Pico is part of the textile district of the Valle del Liri, and the textile industry is one of the main economic activities of the village. In 2015, out of a total of 33,605 active companies in the province, 121 were located in Pico, employing 193 workers.

Administration in Pico

In 1927, Pico passed from the province of Terra di Lavoro to that of Frosinone following the reorganization of provincial districts established by royal decree n. 1 of January 2, 1927.
