Piazzatorre

Welcome to Piazzatorre: a mountain town in the province of Bergamo

Located in the beautiful Alta Val Brembana, Piazzatorre is a mountain town with about 380 inhabitants, located 48 km north of the provincial capital, Bergamo. With an altitude ranging from 850 m above sea level to 1,100 m above sea level, the town is immersed in nature and offers beautiful excursions both in summer and winter.

Origin of the name

Many people believe that the place name Piazzatorre derives from the union of the words "piazza" and "torre," meaning "the square of the tower." However, it seems that the tower has nothing to do with the etymology of the name. In reality, it refers to the word "torus" or "taurus," meaning a hill or raised land. Together with the word "platea" (square, open space), it forms the meaning of "raised square," which is the geographical feature of Piazzatorre.

Today, Piazzatorre is a renowned tourist destination both in winter and summer and is mainly frequented as a holiday resort and as a location for pre-season sports team retreats.
