Discovering Pianezze, the Venetian municipality surrounded by cherry and vine hills

Physical geography: an area rich in natural surprises

The territory of Pianezze extends in the southern foothill band of the Sette Comuni plateau. The area, partly hilly and partly flat, is comprised between the Astico river and the Brenta river. In the hilly area, you can admire the cherry, olive, and vine crops. Despite the beauty of the places, the area is subject to the landslide risk during strong storms.

Worth noting are the various "Cherry Trails" that wind through hills and woods, allowing you to enjoy the natural beauty of the territory.

History: between ancient settlements and strong religious presence

Pianezze is a place with very ancient history. The first mention dates back to 1025, but human settlements date back to an even more remote period. During the recent restoration of the church of Saints Philip and James, dating back to the Longobard or Frankish period, items from the proto-historic period emerged.

In the Middle Ages, Pianezze was one of the villages that constituted the municipality of Marostica. Documents from that time mention the local churches several times, but they make no mention of the existence of castles or other fortifications.

Symbols: the coat of arms and the flag

The coat of arms and flag of Pianezze were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 1950. The coat of arms is split: in the first section is represented, on a blue background, a trimastio – a structure made up of three adjacent towers – in red, crenellated, and founded on a rock; in the second one, on a silver background, a fruited cherry tree is rooted on the central top of an Italian-style mount of three interconnected peaks in green. The flag is an azure drape.

Society: the demographic evolution of Pianezze

Pianezze is a municipality of 2,173 inhabitants. The demographic evolution shows a slight increase in the population in recent years.

Culture: Pianezze's events

Pianezze is a place where art, culture, and tradition come together in unique events. Among these:

Economy: cherries and traditions of the territory

Cherry is the undisputed symbol of Pianezze and its economy. In particular, the early maturing "Sandra" variety is among the most appreciated in the area. Curiously, the "Sandra" Cherry Festival is held in advance of the traditional cherry festivals held in the following two weeks. Among these are the Cherry Festival of Marostica and the Cherry Exhibition-Market of Mason Vicentino.

The cherry of Marostica, on the other hand, obtained the IGP (Protected Geographical Indication) mark in 2001.

In conclusion, Pianezze represents a place of great charm where nature and traditions meet in a perfect mix. Come visit us to admire the landscapes, learn about the history, and savor the flavors of the local cherry. We're waiting for you!
