Mortizza

Welcome to Mortizza!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk to you about Mortizza, a village in the municipality of Piacenza, located in the Emilia-Romagna region. Mortizza, also known as ''Murtissa'' in the Piacenza dialect, extends over a vast area between the Po river to the north, the Nure stream to the east, the city of Piacenza to the west and the municipality of San Lazzaro Alberoni to the south, covering a total area of .

The history of Mortizza

The name Mortizza derives from the fact that the area used to flood due to the overflowing of the Po river, creating stagnant and unhealthy waters. Mortizza was a hamlet of Piacenza until 1806, when it became part of the municipality of Roncaglia. The name of the municipality changed again in 1821, when the town hall was moved to the hamlet of Le Mose and the municipality was renamed with its current name. In 1923, Mortizza was annexed to the municipality of Piacenza, as the inhabitants of the neighboring municipalities used the city's services and did not contribute to the municipal taxes.
