I Vaccari

I Vaccari in Piacenza

Hi everyone! Today I will talk about a beautiful hamlet of the Municipality of Piacenza, called I Vaccari or Ivaccari. Located just 76 meters away from the Nure river, this small locality has a very interesting history.

History

I Vaccari was originally a fiefdom of the Volpe-Landi family. In 1806, with the establishment of the French Mairie, the city of Piacenza was limited to the circumvallation around the walls, and I Vaccari became part of the Municipality of San Lazzaro Alberoni. In 1923, with the merger of these two municipalities, I Vaccari became a hamlet of Piacenza.

Monuments and places of interest

Religious architectures

If you are a lover of art and architecture, you can't miss the Church of San Martino al Nure, also known as the Church of the Blessed Virgin of the Belt. First mentioned in a document dating back to 1343, this church was rebuilt in the 16th and 17th centuries and remodeled in the 19th century. The facade features exposed bricks and in the center of the tympanum there is a painting of San Martino. Laterally there are votive chapels, lower than the central body, and a semicircular baptistery.

Civil architectures

Among the most beautiful palaces in the hamlet we find the Scotti Palace, dating back to the 17th century and previously owned by the Douglas Scotti counts of Vigoleno and then by the Radini Tedeschi. Today it has been converted into the Casa del Fanciullo, a structure that helps minors in difficulty. In addition, there are the Salvatico Palace and the Guglieri Palace, both dating back to the 17th century. The Guglieri Palace includes an oratory, a dovecote tower and some buildings with agricultural vocation and, despite being owned by the municipality of Piacenza, it is about to be sold.

Infrastructure and transport

Until 1938, I Vaccari was served by the Piacenza-Lugagnano Tramway. Today, on the other hand, the hamlet is connected to the city thanks to the line 11 of the urban service of Piacenza, operated by the Emiliana Trasporti Autofiloviari Company.

Conclusions

In summary, I Vaccari is a hamlet of Piacenza rich in history and monuments and places of interest. If you are in the area and intend to go on an excursion out of town, I Vaccari is definitely a destination not to be missed.
