Pezzolo Valle Uzzone

A tour of Pezzolo Valle Uzzone

Dear readers, today I want to take you on a tour of Pezzolo Valle Uzzone, a small but fascinating town in the province of Cuneo, located in Piedmont.

History

Here we are! Let's dive right into the history of this town, which was created on February 19, 1928 by combining the centers of Gorrino and Torre Uzzone. The former, known as Gorino, appears in a papal bull from 1014. The latter, instead, dates back to 1209, when the municipality of Asti gave it as a fief to the Del Carretto family. The territory has passed from hand to hand: to the Marquises of Saluzzo, to the Savoy and to the Bishops of Asti.

Pezzolo Valle Uzzone: history, religious buildings and activities.

Religious buildings

The area is rich in religious buildings of considerable interest. The Sanctuary of Todocco, also known as the sanctuary of the Madonna of Divine Grace, is located at about 700 meters above sea level and was rebuilt in the 1930s. It is dedicated to the Madonna of Divine Grace, a devotion that dates back to the miraculous healing of a deaf-mute shepherdess in the seventeenth century. The complex also includes the rural chapel of Our Lady of the Snows in Sejore, on the hill overlooking Valle Uzzone. Here the "Festa del Todocco" is celebrated on the first two Sundays of August.

In Torre Uzzone, the set of buildings of the ancient parish is privately owned, after a long period of neglect and subsequent ruination. Of the church, only the bell tower and a small chapel in the presbytery and apse remain.

Other buildings of interest are the Church of San Colombano in Pezzolo, the parish church of San Pietro in Vincoli in the hamlet of Gorrino, the confraternity church of Our Lady of Loreto in Gorrino and numerous chapels scattered throughout the territory.

Curiosities

Do you know why it is called Pezzolo Valle Uzzone? The name comes from "Pseu" in Piedmontese language, which means "invisible". It probably refers to the fact that the town center was not visible clearly from the main road.

Activities

In addition to the historical and architectural beauties, the territory offers numerous activities to do: walks in nature, mountain bike excursions, sport fishing and much more.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Pezzolo Valle Uzzone is a charming town, rich in religious history and tourist attractions. We really enjoy visiting it and we can only recommend that you do the same!
