Pettoranello del Molise, originally called Pettorano, was owned by the Aragonese and then, from 1500 to 1544, by the Gaetani family. Later, the feud was purchased by the Maiorani family, but then redeemed by Berardino di Somaya. In the eighteenth century, the village passed to the Neapolitans d'Avalos and then to the Caracciolo until the abolition of the feudal regime. In 1860, during the fall, the Battle of Pettorano took place.
