The town is located at an altitude of about 650m above sea level, at the foot of the long limestone massif of Serra Lunga, which acts as a watershed between the Liri and Fucino basins. The municipal territory is characterized by the small mountain range of Serra Lunga, which reaches the 2,003m of Monte Cornacchia, and is crossed by some springs that feed the Posta Fibreno Lake nature reserve. The territory extends between the Liri valley and the Comino valley, between the plain of Sora and the first foothills of the mountains of the Abruzzo National Park.

Origin of the name

The name Pescosolido comes from the Osco language and means "solid rock". The current name dates back to the 9th century, but the town dates back to earlier periods.

History

The history of Pescosolido dates back to the mid-9th century, when the town was already linked to the city of Sora. During the centuries, the town passed under the lordship of different noble families, including the Longobards and the Normans, until in 1137 it was donated to the famous Abbey of Montecassino. Later, in 1159, the town was destroyed on the orders of Simone, who three years earlier had also destroyed Sora. In 1167 the town was donated to Simone, son of the previous destroyer, while in 1201 it was taken back by Pope Innocent III.
