Castelluccio

Geography

Hi everyone! Today I want to talk to you about the various Italian towns that are named Castelluccio. Did you know there were so many? I have discovered 12 of them!

Let's start with Castelluccio dei Sauri, located in the province of Foggia, in the Puglia region. It is a small town of about 1,000 inhabitants located in the heart of the Gargano National Park. You could also visit Castelluccio Valmaggiore, which is also located in the province of Foggia and has approximately 1,500 inhabitants.

Now let's move on to the province of Potenza, in Basilicata, where we find three towns named Castelluccio: Castelluccio Inferiore, Castelluccio Superiore, and the former town of Castelluccio, which was merged with the town of Castelmezzano in 2018.

The hamlet of Castelluccio in Castel San Giorgio, in the province of Salerno, also deserves a mention: you could visit it to admire the beautiful Historic Center. Not far from there is Castelluccio Cosentino, a hamlet of Sicignano degli Alburni, also in the province of Salerno.

If you are interested in history and archaeology, you could visit the hamlet of Castelluccio in Norcia, in the province of Perugia, or the one in Pescorocchiano, in the province of Rieti. In the hamlet of Castelluccio in Montese, in the province of Modena, you could instead admire the beauty of the landscape and take long walks in the woods.

We must not forget Castelluccio di Porretta Terme, in the metropolitan city of Bologna, famous for its hot springs and where you can taste typical products of the Apennines.

Finally, there is also an island called Scogli Castelluccio, which is part of the territory of the municipality of Syracuse, in Sicily.

Other

Not only towns, but also castles and archaeological sites bear the name Castelluccio. In Pienza, in the province of Siena, we find the Castello di Castelluccio, dating back to the thirteenth century.

In Gela, in the province of Caltanissetta, there is instead Castelluccio di Gela, a fortress dating back to the Swabian era.

Finally, the archaeological site of Castelluccio di Noto, in Sicily, is famous for the prehistoric culture that takes its name from the place.

Last but not least, let me introduce Federico Castelluccio, an American actor and director famous for his role as Furio Giunta in the TV series "The Sopranos."

The various Italian towns carrying the name Castelluccio.
