Stiappa

Welcome to Stiappa, the Tuscan village of the Ten Castles!

Hello friends! Today I want to tell you about Stiappa, a village in the municipality of Pescia, in the province of Pistoia, located in Tuscany. Stiappa is part of the Ten Castles of Valleriana, also known as the Pesciatina Switzerland. This region is characterized by small medieval villages, nestled among the hills and forests.

Monuments and places of interest

The main attraction of Stiappa is the Church of Santa Maria Assunta, which dates back to the 14th century, with the bell tower that was built later in the 19th century. The church is full of frescoes and aetiologic statues representing the patron saints of Stiappa. The bell tower, on the other hand, is characterized by its cast iron clock and its bell with chromatic chimes.

The main square of the village is an ideal place to start your tour: here you can admire the stone houses, the local well, and the ancient church. Continuing your journey, you will come across the small inner square, where you can admire the monument to the Fallen, which commemorates the citizens who lost their lives during the world wars.

Among other photos, you will find a plaque dedicated to Rocco Giammugnai, who died during the Battle of Adwa. In the various shots, you can also admire the beauties of the characteristic alleys of the village, which seem to encompass the history and tradition of Stiappa.

If you decide to visit Stiappa, remember to pay attention to the dates of the local festivals, where the village comes alive with music, food, and festivities. In particular, do not miss the feast of San Bartolomeo (patron saint of Stiappa), which is celebrated on the last weekend of August.
