Peschiera Borromeo: history, climate and natural attractions.

Climate

The climate of Peschiera Borromeo is humid for most of the year due to the numerous cultivated fields. Winter temperatures rarely reach peaks of 7 degrees below zero, while in summer the climate can be hot and poorly ventilated, with temperatures exceeding 35 degrees.

History

The Peschiera Borromeo area has a very ancient history that dates back to the Roman era, when it was crossed by the Regina road, one of the main Roman roads that connected the river port of Cremona to Chiavenna, passing through Milan.

During the Middle Ages, the Peschiera area was important for the salt trade that went up the Lambro River and, passing through the monastery, reached Milan.

Peschiera Borromeo was founded in the Middle Ages and was once rich in streams and lakes, from which the name "Peschiera" derives. There were several Cascine a corte (court farms) on the current territory of the municipality, such as Mirazzano, Biassano, Longhignara, Bettola, and San Bovio.

The oldest locality is Mirazzano, where the Castle stands, which was once a monastery and later transformed into a summer residence by the Borromeo Counts.

During the French domination, the Borromeo residence was so far from the walls of Milan that the city was often invaded by foreign peoples.

According to the subdivision of the Milanese territory into Pievi milanesi (Milanese Pilgrimages), Peschiera belonged to the Pieve di Mezzate.

Curiosities

Not everyone knows that the Linate district, located in the Peschiera Borromeo area, gives its name to Milan-Linate Airport, whose site falls within the municipalities of Peschiera Borromeo, Segrate, and Milan.

It is interesting to note that unfortunately, the territory has been the subject of strong urban development, which has led to the disappearance of a large part of the green areas of the area. However, the municipal administration is working to preserve what remains of the territory.

Conclusions

In conclusion, Peschiera Borromeo is a fantastic place to visit, both for its ancient history and for the natural beauties it offers. If you ever get the opportunity to visit this city, you won't regret it. We are sure it will leave you with some beautiful memories!
