Casa del diavolo
Let's discover together Casa del Diavolo!
Dear readers, today I want to take you on a tour of a hamlet in the municipality of Perugia called Casa del Diavolo (or, as they say in the Perugian dialect, Chèsa del Dievlo). I will tell you the story of the name and talk about the monuments and places of interest in this picturesque village.
Etymology of the name
Let's start with the curious aspect: where does the name of this little town come from? Actually, there are several theories about it. Some claim that the name comes from the presence, in the past, of a house of "perdition" frequented by bandits and criminals. Others, instead, link it to the passage of the Carthaginian troops led by Hannibal, who allegedly destroyed the area. Finally, it seems that the discovery of burial urns containing children's bones in medieval times may have influenced the choice of the locality's name.
Monuments and places of interest
After explaining the origin of the name (which is not as diabolical as it may seem), let's now talk about the monuments and places of interest that can be visited in Casa del Diavolo.
The first mandatory stop is the Arcelli Monument House, which stands out for its unique architecture and imposing appearance. It is a large fortress-house that rises on the San Pietro hill, very close to the church of Santa Rita. The building, dating back to the 15th century, is as interesting from an artistic point of view as it is from a historical and cultural point of view: famous writers, poets, and artists, including Gabriele D'Annunzio himself, have stayed here.
Speaking of churches, we cannot fail to mention the church of Santa Rita, the main place of worship in the hamlet. The building, in Renaissance style, was built in the 15th century and has numerous frescoes and decorations that make it a true artistic gem.
If you are passionate about history and ancient nobility residences, you cannot miss Palazzo Coluzzi, an imposing noble palace dating back to the 18th century. Its façade is decorated with statues and bas-reliefs of great artistic value, while inside you can admire suggestive frescoed halls and antique furnishings.
Finally, for those who want some fun and want to party until late at night, there is the Red Zone Club, a very famous nightclub in the area where you can spend pleasant evenings with music, drinks, and friends.
Other projects
We have come to the end of our tour and all that remains is to summarize what we have seen so far. Casa del Diavolo, despite its unusual name, has proven to be a hamlet of the municipality of Perugia rich in history and beauty. The Arcelli Monument House, the church of Santa Rita, and Palazzo Coluzzi are the main tourist attractions of the village, while the Red Zone Club represents the culmination of local nightlife.
In conclusion, we can say that Casa del Diavolo deserves to be visited and appreciated in all its facets. I recommend going there at least once in a lifetime to admire the beauties of this unique hamlet in the world.
