Pertica Alta

Greetings and Introduction

Hi everyone! Today I'm going to talk to you about a small municipality in the province of Brescia: Pertica Alta.

Physical Geography

Pertica Alta is located in the high area of the province of Brescia and is part of the Mountain Community of Valle Sabbia. It is divided into six hamlets: Belprato, Lavino, Livemmo, Navono, Noffo, and Odeno. The territory is located between the Trompia Valley and the Sabbia Valley and is crossed by the provincial road SP50 Tavernole-Nozza, which connects the two valleys through the Termine Pass. The hamlet of Livemmo is the center of the municipality and here you can also find the Canonica, the Interactive Center of Pre-Alpine Cultural Studies-Museums of Pertica Alta, and the municipal library "Maria Leali".

Origins of the Name

The name of Pertica Alta comes from the Lombard custom of erecting a Perticae surmounted by a simulacrum of a dove in memory of a warrior who fell or disappeared in battle far from home.

History

The municipality of Pertica Alta was created in 1928 by the merger of the municipalities of Bel Prato, Livemmo, and Navono. In the past, the territory was part of the Universitas Perticae Vallis Sabbi, a supra-municipal organization active from 1382 until 1797. In 2022, the hamlet of Livemmo is the recipient of funds from the Ministry of Culture for the "National Plan for Villages", dedicated to investments for the cultural, social, and economic regeneration of Italian villages and small municipalities.
