Perrero

Perrero: a Piemontese commune

Hello everyone! Today, I want to tell you about a Piemontese commune called Perrero, located in the metropolitan city of Turin and home to around 643 inhabitants. Let's discover more about its physical geography and history!

Physical geography of Perrero

Perrero is situated in the middle Germanasca Valley, which is part of the Mountain Union of the Municipalities of Chisone and Germanasca Valleys. The territory reaches its highest point at the summit of Punta Cialancia, which stands at 2,855 meters above sea level. A place of remarkable natural and scenic interest is the Provincial Natural Park of Conca Cialancia situated in the upper part of Perrero's territory, upstream of the Faetto valley.

Perrero: between history and nature in Valle Germanasca.

History of Perrero

The name Perrero could derive from the medieval term "pererium," which means stony place. On December 22, 1787, the nobles Buffa from Perrero were enfeoffed by Vittorio Amedeo III with the title of Count of Perrero (commonly known as Buffa di Perrero). In 1928, Perrero merged with other communes, including Bovile, Chiabrano, Faetto, Maniglia (comune), Riclaretto, San Martino di Perrero, and Traverse.

Bovile, on the other hand, became an inheritance of the Richelmy family, already Counts of Cavallerleone. Gianbattista Camillo Richelmy was enfeoffed in 1764 with two-thirds of Bovile's estate and invested with the comital title, swapping the Cavallerleone estate for that of Bovile. The Richelmy family was very attached to the House of Savoy, and this is evident in their roles and positions in the Savoy court. When Napoleon began to pressure the Savoy States, the Richelmy family rallied around their Sovereigns, becoming inseparable hopes of the restoration even in the darkest days. In fact, when the court was re-established in Turin, Carlo became his First Squire and Gentleman of the Chamber, Gaspare Oberto became Grand Falconer and Governor of Venaria Reale, and the brothers both received the coveted collar of the Most Holy Annunciation.

Conclusions on the history of Perrero

In short, Perrero has a very interesting and ancient history, linked to the noble families of the past and the Piemontese territory. Today, it is a quiet and picturesque commune that I recommend visiting for its natural beauty and fascinating history. Thank you for reading, and I hope to have piqued your interest in this small Italian reality. Until next time!
