Physical geography

Perarolo overlooks the gorge of the Piave river, at the border between the Dolomites and the Venetian Prealps. History

In Perarolo, the economy was based on the traffic of rafts for the Republic of Venice, thanks to the abundance of timber in the area. In 1913, the railway arrived in the valley, bringing an economic and cultural turning point. The parish church of San Nicolò is a testimony of the historical importance of the area. The church, rebuilt several times over the centuries, was dedicated to the patron saint of raftsmen. Unfortunately, the floods of the Boite river destroyed the church and a new one had to be built.

Monuments and places of interest

The church of San Rocco is famous for the presence of an altarpiece attributed to Francesco Vecellio, the older brother of Tiziano, representing the Madonna with Child between Saints Rocco and Sebastian.

The Museum of "cìdolo" and timber, instead, was founded in 2005 to celebrate the economic history of Perarolo. In the museum, you can admire the structure of the old "cìdolo" of the Sacco locality, which was a barrier to the logs that descended by waterway, without impeding the passage of water.

Over the years, the population of Perarolo has constantly decreased, but the community is still strong and united. The municipal administration constantly strives to preserve this wonderful area.
