In 1859, with the law of October 23rd, the Kingdom of Italy was divided into provinces, districts, mandamientos, and communes. The ancient Province of Asti was suppressed and the Asti district was established, encompassing the same municipalities as part of the province of Alessandria. In 1935, it was officially reconstituted as a province.
