Peglio is a small municipality in the province of Como, situated on the Sasso Pelo hill, at 910 meters above sea level. Surrounded by nature and with breathtaking views of Lake Como, this town is the perfect place for mountain and tranquility lovers.
Physical Geography
The municipality of Peglio is located on the slopes of the Sasso Pelo, between the Livo plain and the Liro valley. This geographical position offers the possibility to practice various outdoor activities such as hiking, climbing, and mountain biking.
History
During the communal age, Peglio was an autonomous community governed by a municipal council. Over the centuries, it was enfeoffed by various families, including the Crivelli, Medici, and Gallio. In the sixteenth century, many inhabitants of Peglio moved to Palermo, but they maintained a connection with their home town, financing several works of art in the church of Saints Eusebio and Vittore.
After several vicissitudes, Peglio became an independent municipality in 1812, but has suffered a significant depopulation from the nineteenth century to the present day.
Symbols
The coat of arms and the banner of Peglio represent the cattle trade and the thick forests of the territory. The banner is a green and white cloth.
Monuments and Points of Interest
The church of Saints Eusebio and Vittore is one of the main attractions of Peglio. Located in a panoramic position on the Sasso Pelo hill, the church houses important frescoes by Fiammenghini, dating back to the early seventeenth century.
