Pedesina
Welcome to Pedesina!
Hello everyone! Today I will tell you about Pedesina, a small municipality located in the province of Sondrio in Lombardy. Despite being one of the least populated municipalities in Italy with its 36 inhabitants, it is a truly fascinating and picturesque place.
Let's discover the physical geography of Pedesina
The village is situated on the slopes of Monte Rotondo, in the Western Orobie Alps, and is surrounded by the Orobie Valtellinesi Park in the small Val Gerola. Pedesina borders Rasura to the north, Gerola Alta and Premana to the south, Gerola Alta and Bema to the east, and Rogolo and Premana to the west. An ideal place for nature lovers and those seeking tranquility in the mountains.
Brief history of Pedesina
Pedesina was a fiefdom of the noble Vicedomini family in the thirteenth century. The coat of arms and banner of Pedesina were granted with D.P.R. on June 9, 1967. The banner is a split flag of white and blue. The mountain on the coat of arms symbolizes the altitude of the municipality, located at about 1000 m above sea level, and the wavy silver band represents the road that, running through the Morbegno valley, leads to Gerola Alta.
Visit the parish church of Sant'Antonio
In the parish church of Sant'Antonio, you can admire a wooden icon from the seventeenth century and a fresco by Cipriano Valorsa, dating back to 1564. An essential stop for those who want to learn about the history and culture of the place.
Life and economy in Pedesina
In the past, Pedesina's economy was based on subsistence agriculture, cattle breeding, and exploitation of forests. In the twentieth century, during the summer season, there was a decent tourist movement, also thanks to the two hotels for climatic stays that are now closed. Today, most residents live on pensions, and the only commercial activity present is a restaurant emporium that also serves as a bar and supply center.
Conclusions
Pedesina, with its fascinating location and its peaceful atmosphere, is the ideal place for those seeking peace and serenity in a wonderful mountain landscape. Visiting the church of Sant'Antonio and discovering the history of the area is an unmissable experience. If you want to enjoy a breathtaking view and breathe fresh mountain air, do not hesitate to visit Pedesina.
