Paupisi

The Beauty of Paupisi

Paupisi is a small Campanian town with a population of 1323, situated in the province of Benevento. Its geographical position at the northern slopes of the Taburno Camposauro mountain range, amid olive groves and vineyards, makes it a place of remarkable natural beauty.

Paupisi offers the opportunity to enjoy nature with an elevation gain of 1117 meters, ranging from an altitude of 59 meters above sea level to 1176 meters above sea level. The position of the village is characterized by the left bank of the Calore Irpino river, where Roman antiquities can be found.

Brief History of Paupisi

The origin of Paupisi derives from the term "Pau", which means "village". The area of the town, in fact, has been inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by the numerous ruins found in the territory.

Paupisi underwent feudal dominations, first of the Abbey of San Vincenzo al Volturno, then of the Abbey of San Lupo in Benevento. Subsequently, the town passed to the County of Telese Terme, the Barons of Fenucchio, the Frangipane, the Sanframondo, and finally the Sarriani. Until the last century, Paupisi constituted a municipality together with Ponte.

The Society of Paupisi

The town of Paupisi, with its 1323 inhabitants, is a small community with a strong family nucleus, where everyone knows and helps each other.

The Culture of Paupisi

Paupisi boasts an important production of wine and oil. The Cecatiello festival, held on the last weekend of August, offers visitors the opportunity to taste local wines such as Aglianico, Falanghina and Coda di Volpe, as well as traditional dishes such as cecatielli and padellaccia.

Cecatielli are a pasta made strictly by hand with wheat flour and represent a poor dish but with a manual processing that gives the pasta a characteristic aroma. The sauce based on meat or other condiments makes the dish even more flavorful.

Padellaccia, on the other hand, is a traditional dish based on the slaughter of a young pig. The plate was prepared with the least noble pieces of meat, and its seasonality makes it taste even better.

The Administration of Paupisi

In the town of Paupisi, the administration is based on a mayor and a municipal council, who deal with managing the ordinary administration.
