Paullo, a small town located less than 10 kilometers east of Milan, is a place rich in history and excellence. With its 11,085 inhabitants, it is a town that has experienced strong economic growth in recent years, thanks to its strategic location and the presence of numerous commercial activities.
Physical geography
The territory of Paullo is characterized by a great variety, being located on the border between the province of Milan and the province of Lodi. Despite being a highly urbanized area, it is still possible to find natural areas of great value, such as the Southern Milan Agricultural Park, which occupies a part of the territory.
The climate is continental and is characterized by rather cold winters and hot summers, with a good presence of precipitation throughout the year. The territory is mainly flat, with few variations in altitude.
Origin of the name
The name Paullo derives from the Latin ''palus'', ''paludis'' (swamp), as the town initially arose near a swamp drained by the Benedictines.
History
The origins of the town date back to the 6th century BC, when the Insubri, an ancient population of Celtic origin, settled in the area, attracted by the presence of a large amount of water resources. Over the centuries, the territory underwent numerous transformations, especially following the reclamation works carried out by the Benedictines.
Economy
Paullo is mainly a commercial town, with numerous small and medium-sized businesses. The presence of the Paullese, an important artery that connects Milan to Cremona, has favored the economic growth of the area.
City status
In 2009, Paullo was awarded the title of city by the President of the Italian Republic, Giorgio Napolitano, a very important recognition for the small Lombard reality.
