The history of Pàtrica

The history of Pàtrica dates back to the times of the Counts of Ceccano. After several changes of ownership, in 1625 the marquisate passes to the Colonna family, who hold it until the end of feudalism. During the Second World War, Pàtrica becomes a German garrison, but following the Allied victory, there is the brutal violence of the French troops, the so-called goumier, against the civilian population.

An infamous page in the history of the village is the massacre of Pàtrica, which took place on November 8, 1978. The Prosecutor of the Republic of Frosinone, Fedele Calvosa, is killed in an ambush while he was on duty from Pàtrica to Frosinone with the escort officer Giuseppe Pagliei and the driver Luciano Rossi. The attack was claimed by the Communist Combatant Formations.
