The history of the municipality of Paspardo

The history of Paspardo is very ancient and dates back to the Middle Ages. In 1299, the consuls of the vicinia of Paspardo swore allegiance to Bishop Berardo Maggi of Brescia, paying the tithe due. In 1336, Bishop Jacopo de Atti of Brescia invested the Municipality of Paspardo with the rights of the tithe in the territories of the municipality.

The fiefs of Paspardo

Over the centuries, various families have obtained the fiefdom of Paspardo from the Bishop of Brescia. Among these, the vicinia of Paspardo, which had the right to govern the area in 1336.

Symbols of Paspardo

The coat of arms and banner of Paspardo were granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 1982. The banner is a split red and yellow pennant.

Society: demographic evolution and traditions of Paspardo

The demographic evolution of Paspardo has seen a constant increase in population over the years. Today, the scütüm, nicknames used by the camuni, refer to the inhabitants of Paspardo as "Pahpardèi" or "Sguísser".

Among the most important traditions of Paspardo, we find the free distribution of salt by the Vicinia to each head of household on January 1st, during the celebration of New Year's Day. During the Rogations of San Marco, there is the custom of making a procession to the Capitello dei Due Pini, an ancient prehistoric altar. Finally, on June 23, the eve of St. John the Baptist, there is a nocturnal procession to the Capitello dei Due Pini.

Administration and Union of Municipalities

Paspardo is part of the Union of Municipalities of Ceto, Cimbergo, and Paspardo, created on January 1st, 1998. The union of municipalities is based in Ceto and covers an area of about 69.01 km².
