The territory covers an area of 15.34 km² and borders the municipality of Udine to the east, forming a single urban area. The hamlets belonging to the municipality are Colloredo di Prato and Passons, while the Santa Caterina and Bonavilla areas are very picturesque.

The A23 (Italy) motorway separates it from the Municipality of Udine, while the Cormor torrent marks the boundary. The surface of the municipality is also crossed by the Ledra canal and the Lavia. Oak trees are fundamental to the municipal territory, and are also represented in the coat of arms.
The history of Pasian di Prato
The toponym Pasiano has ancient origins and is said to be attributable to the Latin personal name "Pacilius". According to some documents, it may have been a Roman colonist who settled in the capital of Pasian di Prato and decided to stay. There are also some archaeological finds, such as those in Muris, where Roman ruins have been discovered. In the 14th century, the name Pasian di Prato appears frequently in documents. During the Middle Ages, the community of Pasian di Prato was under the civil administration of the Rosazzo Abbey. In 1509, Bertossius filius Michaelis, Decani de Pasigliano Prato, a native of the municipality, was taken prisoner during the war between the Serenissima and Austria.
The rural and administrative community of Pasian di Prato
Since the 16th century, Pasian di Prato has formed a rural and administrative community called Vicinia or assembly of the household heads. Every two years, a Dean was elected, from whom the surname most common in the municipality today - Degano - derives.
